Fundraisers

Memphis Literacy Council values the support of many local companies who share our vision for building a more literate community. The Commercial Appeal, Memphis Area Teachers' Credit Union, International Paper Company, The Memphis Business Journal, and the Memphis Grizzlies have all sponsored fundraisers or events for us.

Watch this space for events happening this year. 

• The 2007 Southern Signatures Gala, an evening to celebrate writers and the written word, was held on November 3, 2007. Honorees were Burke's Bookstore, Robert Gordon, Shelby Foote and Miriam DeCosta-Willis.  International Paper Company sponsored the event. 

• On November 4, 2007, we celebrated National Family Literacy Day at the National Civil Rights Museum. 

• The Corporate Spelling Bee sponsored by the Commercial Appeal was October 4, 2007.  The inferno team was victorious. Congratulations!!

• Our Annual Book Sale and Preview Party happens in September in conjuntion with the Cooper-Young Festival.  The Party was Friday, September 14th.  The Book Sale was the following day, Saturday, September 15th.
